1: Please tell us about the problems felt before receiving Rolfing (e.g., stiff shoulders, low-back pain), and about things that were a concern in yoga practice, etc.

A slight congestion at the thoracolumbar junction had become chronic, and there were times when a restriction was placed at the start of movement.

2: After receiving the ten-session series of Rolfing, what points were resolved (or noticed)? What points changed in the yoga practice?

In backbends in general, I was made to notice that, from an excessive awareness of the whole spine, I push out the diaphragm and produce strain. I feel that this habit may be the cause that shortens the thoracolumbar junction and produces the congestion.

When I practice yoga aware of this point, the breath deepens and it settles into a comfortable position.

In addition, an improvement in the sense of stability, from noticing a slight tilt of the seat — the foundation formed by many years of lifestyle habit. There are good changes in every movement.

3: What kind of person would be good to introduce Rolfing’s treatment to?

A person who, with pain or discomfort in the yoga practice, keeps continuing repeatedly in the same way.

4: A word for people who are interested in Rolfing.

Rather than merely having treatment received, the treatment brings a natural awareness to the body. It connects to an enjoyable exploration of the body’s possibilities.
